Activities

Food is great, but we have to burn those calories somehow, right? So, outside the house, what can you do?

Let's see what's on the menu...

By the way, I have a special section on one-day excursions on a separate page.

The train of Pelion

Constructed at the start of the previous century by Evaristo de Chirico, this train features the narrowest gauge (distance between tracks) in Europe, at 60cm. It takes its time, about one and a half hour, to cover a distance of 16km, but for a very good reason. You'll be enjoying great views of the gulf and you'll be travelling through some majestic countryside, which you'll want to enjoy slowly.

Hiking

There's a whole mountain range to walk if you want, and a lot of people took the time and the effort to mark numerous footpaths from village to village. There's also a club that organises hikes around central Pelion every weekend. Other than that, I'll try to upload on Google Maps some footpaths that I've come to know.

An easy hike that's worth it is in Pinakates from this point (Google Maps) up to a dry river (in the summer). This footpath in the old days was the place for village youngsters to hang around and meet each other.

Organised activities

I have no personal experience of these businesses, I just know they exist

Horse riding

In central Pelion there are two establishment that offer tours of the nearby areas on horseback. I've never done these, I just know the shops and the shop owners.

Ski

Personally the only experience I have of the area is visiting the chalet and the very good restaurants. But apparently it's quite a popular thing in winter... If you're into skiing you probably know it already and you know a lot more than me, so this is just a reminder...
