Northern Pelion (Portaria to Zagora)

Portariá / Makrynítsa

You start your day in one of the most touristic spots in Pelion. Between these two villages you can easily spend hours roaming around the cobbled paths, enjoying all the nice coffee and the food and shopping little bits and bobs for back home. You'll find tons of little shops with local products, from herbs and local sweets to wooden creations and what-have-you.

Hánia and the ski resort

If it's winter and you're into skiing, you'll probably spend a day up there. But if you're in either of my apartments, you're not that much of a ski fan, are you? Hánia itself is more of a stop for skiers to eat some winter food. So, if you didn't eat in Portaria, any restaurant in Hánia is a good pick.

Stream in Plakotoúra

If you want to get your feet a little dirty and do some walking, your next stop on your way to Zagora is the Stream in Plakotoura. Park on the main road (there is room for that), follow the signs and in 10 minutes you are at the stream.

Waterfalls of Póros Zagorás

A little after Plakotoura there's another spot where you can visit some crystal clear (and cold) waters. That'll be the waterfalls of Poros Zagoras. They're very close to the Plakotoura stream and the most adventurous among you might even try to walk from one location to the other. The even more daring among you will take a swim in the ice-cold waters of the waterfalls.

Galanórema Bridge / Galanópetra

This is a very picturesque spot along the Galanorema stream with big rock formations, where lots of people visit to enjoy nature and take lots and lots of photos. The Daniel storm had its hand with it in September 2023, but the locals did their best to restore this spot back to its former beauty.

Zagorá

One of the biggest villages in Pelion, in which you can spend lots of time wandering about and enjoying the traditional houses, the coffee and the food and the overall very picturesque atmosphere.

The way back ... will be rather long either way

  • if you're staying in Milies, it's better that you drive through Tsangarada
  • if you're staying in Platanidia, it's worth going back through Portaria and make a night stop in Volos or have a tsipouro in Agria
